I Wandered lone(a) as a Cloud by William Wordsworth and Ode to a Nightingale by hind end Keats both have many similarities within their theme, descriptions, and writing style. Their themes of merriment be prevalent, the descriptions of the visions and emotions grant readers feel like theyre in the poems, and the writing style is what makes the poems and gives them a sense of direction. Two contrastive authors write these two poems yet you wouldnt think so by how similar they really are.
Both poems are or so entering a state of happiness whether its by recalling a memory in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud or imagining a nightingale in Ode to a Nightingale. When both narrators become lonely or empty they enter their happy place and imagine themselves in a place far away from where they are. This is shown in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud when Wordsworth states, For oft, when on my couch I lie/In vacant or in ruminative mood,/They flash upon that inward eye/Which is the bliss of solitude; which shows that he goes to his happy place when look vacant and in Ode to a Nightingale when Keats states, Forlorn! The very word is like a bell/To toll me back from thee to my sole self!/ leave-taking!
The fancy cannot cheat so well/As she is renowned to do, deceiving elf… which shows that the narrator gets brought back to his normal self later existence away in his happy place and feeling deceived since he did not know if it was real or not. using a symbol shows the happy place for both narrators. In I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud the symbol is daffodils and in Ode to a Nightingale the symbol is a nightingale. These symbols are the main subjects of the poems and help to enhance both poems and their themes.
