Entrepreneurship is stereotypically associated with male characteristics (Gupta, Turban, Wasti, and Sikdar 2009). The negative stereotype stating that manpower be intermit entrepreneurs than wo workforce is commonly shared and has detrimental make on womens entrepreneurial intention (Gupta and Bhawe 2007). Moreover women are under-represented in entrepreneurship and media. The present study first intends to analyse whether gender stereotypes in entrepreneurship on the one hand could inhibit womens entrepreneurial intentions (stereotype threat; Steele and Aronson 1995) and on the other hand favor those of men (stereotype lift; Walton and Cohen 2003). Then, the impact of role models (that is, a counter-stereotypical model) in bring down detrimental effects of negative stereotypes on their target was examined.
